Frequently asked questions about our Serbia tours

Where will I visit in Serbia?

The majority of our Serbia tours start in Belgrade and include guided sightseeing in the city. We also have tours visiting Novi Sad and Zlatibor, and we take in some of the country's natural richness in Tara National Park and Uvac Special Nature Reserve, home to a large number of rare griffon vultures.

And these trips visit other Balkan countries too?

Correct! We do have a tour that just takes in the highlights of Serbia, but the majority of our tours visit neighbouring Balkans countries. In all, our Serbia tours take in Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Czechia and Hungary. So you're not short of options!

What is the standard of accommodation on your Serbia tours?

On the majority of our Serbia tours, you can choose from 4 or 5-star accommodation. Of course, the 5-star tour is a little more expensive, but you benefit from the best accommodation the Balkans can offer. The choice is yours!

When is the best time to visit Serbia?

The optimal time to visit Serbia varies depending on your preferences and planned activities. Spring (April to June) offers pleasant temperatures, blossoming nature, and fewer crowds, making it ideal for exploring cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad. Summer (July to August) is peak tourist season, with warm weather, perfect for activities such as hiking and river swimming, though it can be crowded. Autumn (September to November) brings cooler temperatures and vibrant foliage, ideal for nature lovers and cultural events like wine tasting tours. Winter (December to February) is cold and snowy, offering opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts at Serbia's ski resorts, as well as festive celebrations in cities like Belgrade. Ultimately, the best time to visit Serbia hinges on your interests, with something appealing year-round. Our Serbia tours mostly run during the spring, summer and autumn months.

Will I have a tour guide as part of my Serbia package?

Our Serbia tours are fully escorted by a local tour leader, who will be on hand throughout your trip. For some included sightseeing, you will also enjoy the services of local expert guides.

Is Serbia a safe destination for travellers from the LGBTQ+ community?

According to the 2023 LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index, Serbia scores a C rating for LGBTQ+ traveller safety, ranking 52nd out of 203 countries.

Although same sex marriage isn't legalized, there are constitutional and worker protections in place for people of all sexual orientations. Hate crimes against members of the LGBTQ+ community are criminalized and 26 - 50% of consulted citizens consider Serbia a good place to live for gay and lesbian people. There are no legal punishments for same sex relations and most trips for LGBTQ+ travelers to Serbia are trouble-free.

The LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index is designed to provide a good overall picture of attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community in each country and may not reflect the experience of foreign travelers to the country.

Can I drink the tap water in Serbia?

The tap water in Serbia is safe to drink, particularly in the big cities such as Belgrade. Consider bringing a reusable water bottle on tour with you - this will save you money and help to reduce your plastic footprint.

The tap water in more rural parts of Serbia may not be safe to drink so it is recommended to stick to bottled water whilst travelling in these areas.

What transportation do you use in Serbia?

In Serbia we make use of private minibuses and coaches with comfortable seating and large windows for admiring the view as we travel between destinations.

What is the currency in Serbia?

The official currency in Serbia is the Serbian Dinar. Check OANDA for the latest exchange rates. Note that the countries of the Balkans use a variety of different currencies, so it is easiest to pay by credit or debit card if travelling through a number of countries, or to withdraw cash locally.

What is the current travel advice for Serbia?

As a UK-based tour operator, we follow the travel advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO). You can see the most up to date advice for Serbia travel here.
