Itinerary

Day 1

Portsmouth & Isle of Wight ferry

London - Portsmouth - Isle of Wight. Setting off from London, we head south to the coastal city of Portsmouth. There's free time here to grab some lunch and there may be time to climb to the top of Spinnaker Tower for views of the city and the Isle of Wight. You could also follow the historic harbor trails or visit King Henry VIII's warship, the Mary Rose. Then, it's time to board the ferry for our crossing to the Isle of Wight. The journey takes less than an hour and you can enjoy drinks and snacks onboard.

Arriving on the Isle of Wight, our first visit is to Quarr Abbey, a beautiful building blending French, Byzantine and Moorish architecture and design. We then make our way to the small village of Shanklin, where the evening is at leisure.

Please note: Check-in closes at 09:00 on day 1 (tour departs at 09:15) - Stance 3, Greenline Coach Terminal London, Bulleid Way, Victoria, London, SW1W 9SH.

Day 2

Exploring the Isle of Wight

Today we are exploring the Isle of Wight. Departing after breakfast, our first stop is the Yarborough Monument. Celebrating the life of a wealthy earl from the 19th century, this is the tallest monument on the island. We also make a photo stop at Brading Downs, where endless green fields roll across the landscape.

Next we enjoy an included visit to the holiday home of one of England's most famous monarchs - Queen Victoria. She once said of Osborne House "it is harder to imagine a prettier spot" and you will find yourself agreeing with her as you explore the house and its pristine gardens. Built in an Italian style, Osborne House is equally as impressive on the inside, with golden rooms and historically important artifacts and furniture.

From the man-made to the natural, we then visit the main natural feature on the Isle of Wight. The Needles are a series of white stacks protruding from the ocean. Photograph them from the shore or opt for a boat ride out to The Needles for a closer look.

As the sun begins to set, we make a final stop at St Catherine's Down to admire the cliffs and surrounding green valleys. Watch the sunset before we return to Shanklin for the evening.

Day 3

Winchester & Stonehenge

Isle of Wight - Portsmouth - Winchester - Stonehenge - Exeter. This morning we catch the return ferry back to Portsmouth, and make our way to the historic city of Winchester. Once the capital of Anglo-Saxon England, Winchester is famous for its association with Alfred the Great and is home to a majestic cathedral and the impressive Norman Great Hall. There's free time to take in some of these sights, enjoy a coffee in a quaint local cafe, or browse one or more of the local museums.

In Winchester we meet a new guide and change vehicles before heading to Stonehenge. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Stonehenge has been meticulously preserved. The award-winning visitor center offers a fascinating exhibition showcasing hundreds of prehistoric artifacts from the Stonehenge collection. A land train shuttle takes you to the iconic stone circles, which are known worldwide.

Next, we proceed to Exeter in Devon, a significant fortified settlement during Roman times. This charming city serves as our base for two nights, allowing ample time to delve into its rich history and cultural offerings.

Day 4

Dartmoor & Exeter free time

Exeter - Dartmoor - Exeter. Today we experience the breathtaking beauty of Dartmoor, an isolated and windswept landscape adorned with stunning rock formations. Dartmoor is also home to a rich variety of plant and animal life, providing a sensory feast of sights, sounds, and smells.

During our journey, you'll have the chance to cross the historic Clapper Bridge at Postbridge before we make our way to Tavistock. This quaint market town holds great historical significance, with its claim as the birthplace of the esteemed explorer Sir Francis Drake.

Upon returning to Exeter in the early afternoon, you'll have ample time to immerse yourself in the city's ancient treasures at a relaxed pace. Discover the remnants of the city walls, marvel at the majestic Norman cathedral, explore the captivating Royal Albert Memorial, and soak in the ambiance of the Quayside. Day 6

St Michael's Mount, Land's End & St Ives

Falmouth - St Michael's Mount - Land's End - St Ives - Falmouth. Today, we will be exploring the most westerly point of England. Our first stop will be the island community of St. Michael's Mount. After a brief visit, we will continue our journey to the unique and breathtaking Minack Theater, which overlooks a powerful ocean and the stunning Porthcurno beach, managed by the National Trust.

Next, we will visit Land's End, a location famous for its association with the Cornish tin mining heritage and also featured in the popular TV series Poldark. Land's End isn't quite the most southerly point in the UK, but it's the furthest point from John O'Groats in the far north. As we travel through the landscapes, you will notice the remnants of the mining industry that once thrived in this area.

Our final destination for the day will be St. Ives, a charming town known for its vibrant art scene. You will have the opportunity to explore the numerous galleries tucked away in the narrow streets by the harbor. We will then return to Falmouth for the night.

Please note: During the winter season, the Minack Theater will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, it will reopen seven days a week around Easter. As a result, tours departing on Fridays or Saturdays will be unable to visit the theatre. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
